the androgynous brogues

“Why are you in men’s shoes? ” asked a friend long time ago with a disapproving face, while looking down at my androgynous brogues? Laughing, I explained, it’s an androgynous style (of) “mixing masculine pieces with feminine flair”…
“Call it whatever you like, it is UGLY”, he said. I took her criticism in my stride and laughed it off because I understand it’s not for everyone, especially that friend of mine.
I’ve never been one to dress according to other men or women’s ( even my friend's) expectations, I dress for myself. It’s a genuine culture and not just a passing fashion trend and now it’s going mainstream.
Androgyny has always been a source of interest and intrigue to me, perhaps because it reminds me of my childhood days as a tomboy, hanging with the local boys in the ‘hood, trying to fit in. I only started to embrace the feminine side of fashion in my 16′s, now I love to mesh the two.

My piece of advice is: don’t be afraid to demonstrate your strong sense of self and style when teaming together individual pieces from your wardrobe. Wear your fashion items confidently and with conviction..(Oh and always listen to your friends but not necessarily about fashion)!!! :D

Show your metal in Spring

Hello everyone

one of the Spring's 2014 trends is the shiny metal. Flashy silk lamé, gilt brocade and slinky chain mail are fabrics typically reserved for a night out, but designers repositioned metallic for daytime this season. From Alber Elbaz's liquid-silver jumpsuit for Lanvin to the foiled dresses at Proenza Schouler to Balmain's alloy bomber jackets, the time to sparkle this spring will be before the sun goes down.

Proenza Schouler

Dolce & Gabbana
Balmain
Diane von Furstenberg
Roberto Cavalli
Isabel Marant
Lanvin

P.S. It's time to shine!

SJP's new shoe line

We all remember Carrie Bradshaw from SATC; the shoemaniac we fall for. It's always been a kind of secret dream of ours to be her. What I truly love in her - despite her shoes and style - is her nasty habit of asking herself those inane rhetorical questions. I read them so many time that I almost learned them by heart!

Well, by the end of February, we'll be able to admire and, even buy, the debut of Sarah Jessica Parker's long-awaited shoe line, SJP. The first shoe that was on a preview looks very familiar though. That's the black pointy-toe pump with a Mary Jane-like strap which looks almost identical to the black Manolo Blahnik Mary Janes that Carrie salivated over in the Vogue closet. In addition, Parker commented on her project as such: "We want to offer something different, something that hasn't been available so far".

This similarity shouldn't be a surprise, as Parker said that she intended to get inspired by her past, when she announced the launch of SJP. Not only is she creating the line in partnership with George Malkemus, president of none other than Manolo Blahnik USA, but a blog about the line on Nordstom.com specifically referenced the black Manolos from the famed Vogue closet episode of "Sex and the City". The line hits Nordstrom stores by the end of next month, as I've said above, so for all of you who are interested in buying the SJP shoes, you'd better start readying those credit cards..!

back to the streets

Hello everyone,

I know it's been ages to post something and I hope you accept my apologies. The last four months were really difficult and busy, at the same time, for me due to the demanding studying I had to do for my postgraduate degree.

They say that when you really want to do something, you find the time to do it and you don't make up excuses. So here I am! I managed to escape from that busy schedule I have and dedicate some time for what makes me feel good - fashion!

Well, you all fashionistas are aware of the seasonal sales, so I've decided to present some sneak peaks of the best of 2013 street style, just to inspire you of styles you wish to adopt, while making your shopping in the super-busy now shops.

With love,
A
