The September Issue - TRENDS

Hello everyone

well after a long time I'm back to stay. I was quite busy dealing with all my law-studying and I am finally done with my double trouble - LLM in International Legal Practice Course (LPC).

This post is about the over discussed September Issue. The blue season may be over, but there is huge consolation in the chance to start wearing FW14’s most exciting new pieces. This season has something for us all: from the dreamy romance and craftsmanship of folk, to the girlish graphicness of the strong ’60s influence. (YES 60's you dear little Audreys). A little reinvention is just what September ordered.

the 'matchy' trend

Hello everyone,

Time to get matchy matchy!!!

Wearing matching top and bottom may sound like a boring trend to some people; but with its increasing appearance on the street and in several high-street as well as luxury brands, matchy-matchy is promised to be one of the hottest trends of the season and not only. While it is a common look to wear matching blazer and trousers/skirt, this look is not very suited for a beach holiday or even a city break in this weather. With the summer approaching, there are plenty of other options for you to choose in order to rock this trend. For a shopping trip in the city, you can choose a beautiful printed/floral t-shirt with matching shorts, or a bright colour top and a matching skirt. For a day on the beach, if you aren’t planning to swim, a crop/bralet top and short skirt would be a great choice while matching light-weight kimono jacket and shorts/skirt would be a perfect option for a cooler weather. If you, unfortunately, still have to head to the office this summer, a matching blazer (or shirt if it’s too hot) and skirt would still be the classic and elegant choice but opt for a bold printed ones if you dare to make a statement!

Nailing a matchy matchy look is prrrrreeeeeetttyy easy. What do you have to do? Cover yourself with a top and bottom piece, whether it be: solid, print, graphics or floral print just make sure it is very “Matchy matchy”.
This trend can suit anyone but if you don’t like sticking out like a sore thumb stick to solid pastel colors, not print, because, as you can imagine, doubling a print is like “HELLO, I’m here!!” one print is already enough to grab attention, now doubled?? Chiiiillllddddd!!! BE READY!
Now I know I just said this trend is easy, well…. it can also “easily” go wrong! More than any other time it is crucial to pay attention to your accessories with this look.
TIP: If you have a print matchy-matchy look and your NOT  AN EXPERT Or EXPERIENCED WITH CLASHING PRINTS please stay safe by wearing solid shoes, solid purse/clutch or if you choose a head piece, also keep it solid. On the other hand if you wear a solid matchy-matchy color, you may play with printed accessories a little freely. Got it? cool.
So, will you be trying this look?
p.s this is so from my mother’s time, she had so many matchy-matchy looks. When I was a kid she used to dress us like that too and I disliked it … my, my look how things have changed! It’s all I’m drawn too lately!
Au voir dear fashionistas!

Coachella updates

For those who are not aware of what Coachella is, it is the Valley Music and Arts Annual Festival which is a three-day festival founded by Paul Tollett, organised by Goldenvoice  and held at the Empire Polo Club in Indio, California in the Inland Empire's Coachella Valley. Find out more HERE and HERE

Many of you are aware of one of the year's big festival, Coachella, where all fashionistas can spot the trends that will dominate festival fields this summer and more.

First up and the staples remain the same - there is no sign of cut-off denim shorts, lacy peasant tops or ankle boots waning in popularity (see Kendall Jenner, Emma Roberts and Sienna Miller for confirmation).

As for new trends, just look out for coordinating two-pieces-matching tops with shorts or skirts, as seen on Katy Perry, Jourdan Dunn, Beyoncé and Solange Knowles.

sporty chic

Listen up, folks! Let's put an end to the discussion on this one. 'This one' being the continuing trend towards sporty clothes/shoes becoming a natural part of the modern fashionable wardrobe. To put it mildly, it's forging ahead at full steam. This is good news for anyone who's wary of fashion's tendency to declare a thing is in one season and out the next. Athletic fashion is here to stay.

The sporty trend was, not surprisingly, all over the catwalks. just look at the way Gucci's head designer Frida Giannini made the tracksuit fit for an ultra-suave party in luscious metallic and transparent materials. Sporty bottoms were also favoured by DKNY, who showed them an ice-cold blue and with a matching cropped top.

Jonathan Saunders got in on the athletic action and presented a critically lauded collection filled with sport's multicoloured shapes, jackets and, yes, you guessed it, tracksuit bottoms - albeit in versions unlikely to be seen on an actual track or field. Prada did legwarmer sports socks, and paired them with dresses that made you think of basketball jerseys; Alexander Wang updated culottes with athletic stripes.

Sport is everywhere in 2014, and the age-old question of whether you want to look fashionable while training or deploy your training gear to look fashionable is not really valid any more. What were once two different wardrobes are not just part of your overall style!!!

the androgynous brogues

“Why are you in men’s shoes? ” asked a friend long time ago with a disapproving face, while looking down at my androgynous brogues? Laughing, I explained, it’s an androgynous style (of) “mixing masculine pieces with feminine flair”…
“Call it whatever you like, it is UGLY”, he said. I took her criticism in my stride and laughed it off because I understand it’s not for everyone, especially that friend of mine.
I’ve never been one to dress according to other men or women’s ( even my friend's) expectations, I dress for myself. It’s a genuine culture and not just a passing fashion trend and now it’s going mainstream.
Androgyny has always been a source of interest and intrigue to me, perhaps because it reminds me of my childhood days as a tomboy, hanging with the local boys in the ‘hood, trying to fit in. I only started to embrace the feminine side of fashion in my 16′s, now I love to mesh the two.

My piece of advice is: don’t be afraid to demonstrate your strong sense of self and style when teaming together individual pieces from your wardrobe. Wear your fashion items confidently and with conviction..(Oh and always listen to your friends but not necessarily about fashion)!!! :D

Show your metal in Spring

Hello everyone

one of the Spring's 2014 trends is the shiny metal. Flashy silk lamé, gilt brocade and slinky chain mail are fabrics typically reserved for a night out, but designers repositioned metallic for daytime this season. From Alber Elbaz's liquid-silver jumpsuit for Lanvin to the foiled dresses at Proenza Schouler to Balmain's alloy bomber jackets, the time to sparkle this spring will be before the sun goes down.
